The three events
The CFT is the Marine Corps’ other annual test — the one meant to look like the job rather than like a gym. Three events, 100 points each, 150 to pass, run in utility trousers and boots.
| Event | What it is |
|---|---|
| Movement to Contact | 880 yards for time. Effectively a half-mile sprint in boots. |
| Ammunition Lift | A 30-lb ammunition can, ground to overhead, as many times as possible in two minutes. |
| Maneuver Under Fire | A 300-yard course: rushes, crawls, a dummy drag, a fireman’s carry, ammo can carry and a grenade throw. |
How to actually train for it
The CFT punishes people who only train steady-state aerobic work, because none of it is steady-state.
- Movement to contact is a lactate event. 400s and 800s at hard effort, in boots some of the time, with short recoveries.
- The ammunition lift is grip, shoulders and pacing. Practise the actual movement with a 30-lb object, and set a rep cadence rather than sprinting the first thirty seconds and dying.
- Maneuver under fire is the most technical event on either Marine test and the one where practice pays fastest. Getting up and down efficiently, an economical carry, a clean transition between segments — that is where the seconds are, not in raw conditioning.
All three reward the same base: a genuine aerobic engine underneath, so you recover between segments instead of accumulating fatigue you cannot shed.
Intervals, carries and the base under them
Lensatic tracks the interval work by GPS with per-segment splits and heart-rate zones, and logs carries and lifts set by set with the weight and reps you actually used. Pick Marine Corps and the plans, goals and standards board follow.

What is a passing CFT score?
150 points total, the same as the PFT, with 1st Class starting at 235.
Is the CFT scored by age and sex?
Yes, all three events are, unlike the PFT plank.
What do I wear?
Utility trousers, boots and a green undershirt — which is why training the movement to contact in running shoes flatters your time and then surprises you on test day.
Is this official?
No. It is scored from the tables in MCO 6100.13A with Administrative Change 5, dated 28 May 2025. Lensatic is a product of Deadlift Digital LLC and is not affiliated with the Marine Corps or the Department of Defense.
