What the AFT is
The Army Fitness Test replaced the ACFT as the test of record on 1 June 2025. Five events rather than six — the standing power throw is gone — each scored 0 to 100, with 60 points required in every single event regardless of how good your total is.
| Event | What it is |
|---|---|
| MDL — 3-Rep Max Deadlift | Three continuous repetitions with a 60-lb hex bar. |
| HRP — Hand-Release Push-Up | Max correct repetitions in two minutes, arms extended to the side at the bottom of every rep. |
| SDC — Sprint-Drag-Carry | Five 50-metre shuttles: sprint, sled drag, lateral, kettlebell carry, sprint. |
| PLK — Plank | Hold a correct plank to failure. |
| 2MR — Two-Mile Run | Two miles on a flat course, for time. |
General and combat standards
Two standards run off the same tables, which is the part that confuses people.
- General standard — scored by age and sex, 300 points total.
- Combat standard — applies to 21 combat MOS and AOCs, is sex-neutral (everyone reads the male column), and requires 350 points.
Both require 60 in every event. A soldier held to the combat standard scores against the same column regardless of sex, which is what the switch above does when you select it.
The published tables have gaps. Scoring walks the column downward and takes the first rung you actually reach, so 345 lb on a scale whose 100 is 350 is not a 100 — it is whatever the next rung down pays. That is the Army’s arithmetic, not a rounding choice made here.
Where the cheap points are
If you need total points rather than a pass, they are not all equally expensive:
- The deadlift is the cheapest. It responds to a few months of straightforward heavy lifting faster than anything else on the test, and a lot of soldiers leave 20–30 points there because they never train it specifically.
- The plank is mostly a skill. Position, breathing and a tolerance for discomfort. Very trainable, and cheap in time.
- The sprint-drag-carry rewards practice more than fitness. Turns, sled angle, how you pick the kettlebells up. Running it a handful of times is worth more than another month of conditioning.
- The two-mile run is the expensive one. Real aerobic fitness takes months. Start it first.
Test day, tracked
Lensatic scores the AFT off the same tables this page uses, on the phone or from an Apple Watch, and plots your total over time. The AFT plan trains the five events specifically, and your profile shows where each event sits against your school’s standard rather than just the Army minimum.

Is it the ACFT or the AFT?
The AFT. It became the test of record on 1 June 2025, replacing the ACFT. Most people still say ACFT, and the calculator above is scored to the current AFT tables either way.
What happened to the standing power throw?
It was removed. The AFT has five events; the medicine ball throw is no longer among them.
What is a good AFT score?
350 is the bar for combat MOSs and a reasonable target for anyone. 400 with 80 in every event is the minimum the SFAS Preparation Handbook asks of a Special Forces candidate, with 473 listed as the goal — which tells you where “good” sits if selection is the plan.
Do I have to hit 60 in every event?
Yes. An event under 60 points is a failed test no matter what the total says, which is why the calculator marks those rows rather than burying them in the arithmetic.
Is this the official Army calculator?
No. It is scored from the Army Fitness Test score tables approved 15 May 2025 and effective 1 June 2025, published at army.mil/aft. Lensatic is a product of Deadlift Digital LLC and is not affiliated with the Army or the Department of Defense. Your unit’s recorded score is the one that counts.
