Navy PRT Calculator

Scored against the Navy’s published performance levels, with the swim and row alternatives alongside the run — because they are not worth the same points for the same sailor.

The three events

Push-ups, a forearm plank, and a cardio event you can choose. Each is scored on the Navy’s twelve published performance levels rather than a continuous scale — 100 down to 45 in fives.

Pick your cardio carefully

The 1.5-mile run, the 500-yard swim and the 2,000-metre row are not equivalent for any given sailor — they are three different tests of three different engines, scored off three different tables. Switch between them in the calculator with the same level of fitness and the points move.

If you swim well, the swim is frequently worth more than the run for the same effort. If you have a running injury history, the row is the least punishing of the three on the joints. It is worth scoring all three honestly once rather than defaulting to the run because it is what everyone else does.

The PRT is not the PST

If you are training for BUD/S, SWCC or EOD, the test that decides your future is the Physical Screening Test — a 500-yard swim, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups and a 1.5-mile run, scored against wholly different standards. The PRT is the fleet-wide annual test. Do not confuse the two. The BUD/S guide covers the PST.

Where sailors lose points

One feed for the pool and the pavement

Lensatic tracks runs by GPS and logs pool sessions with yardage in the same training feed, with heart-rate zones across both. The eight-week swim programme paces itself off a 500-yard time trial, and the standards board shows your numbers against the test you actually care about.

Questions

What is a passing PRT score?

Every event must reach at least Probationary — 45 points. A sailor who falls below the published minimum in any event has not passed, whatever the other two say.

Can I choose the swim instead of the run?

Where your command offers it, yes, and the scoring above covers the 500-yard swim and the 2,000-metre row alongside the 1.5-mile run. Which alternatives are available is a command decision.

Is the plank scored by age?

Yes — unlike the Marine Corps plank, the Navy scores it by age group and sex.

Is this official?

No. It is scored from the Navy Physical Readiness Program Guide-5A dated December 2025, issued under OPNAVINST 6110.1L, using the standards for altitudes below 5,000 feet. Lensatic is a product of Deadlift Digital LLC and is not affiliated with the Navy or the Department of Defense.
